Two individuals, a 22-year-old and a 15-year-old have both been charged by the authorities for the possession of narcotics. The two were arrested from a raid conducted by Samoa Police at the village of Afulilo last week, and are currently in police custody.

The Deputy Commissioner of the Samoa Police Services, Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti, stated during a press conference with the media on Wednesday morning that the two defendants have been charged with the possession of 91 marijiuana branches, 353 marijuana trees, and 31,406 marijuana seeds.

The Deputy Commissioner further stated that the two are believed to be close friends, and are both first-time offenders, and also mentioned that there was a firearm also confiscated from the Afulilo raid.

"We also found a 12-gauge shotgun from the raid, and we're investigating whether the firearm is registered or not," she said.

Papalii added that there is a rise in the use of illicit drugs in the country, and assured that the Ministry is working in partnership with other Government agencies to guarantee that those who are committing such crimes will face the law.
