In a joint effort between the Chief Customs Officer from the New Zealand Police and NZ Customs Pacific Detector Dog Program (PDDP) and Senior Customs Advisor from the New Zealand Customs Service which aimed to combat illicit narcotics, the Ministry of Customs and Revenue and the Ministry of Police Joint K9 Unit and Customs Officers made a drug bust on Monday, April 24, 2023, when they seized 489.8grams of compressed marijuana (hash) at the Post Office.

"The assumption that illegal substances are uncommon to find locally in their compressed form further supports the idea that they are imported from elsewhere. It is still pending confirmation of more information regarding the importation details" stated the announcement.

According to the report ,the Police Commissioner has received the illegal narcotics in an official handover from the CEO/Comptroller of the Ministry of Customs and Revenue for custody and additional investigation to be conducted.

The Ministry of Customs and Revenue is still conducting ongoing investigations to learn more about cannabis importation.
