Earlier today an Ava Ceremony was held to welcome the new Minister of the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture Samoa(MESC) and his Associate Minister, Agaseata Valelio Peto at the MESC Fale Samoa at Malifa.

Seu'ula Ioane used the opportunity lay down the platform for the Ministry’s work in the next five years.

Seu'ula encouraged his staff members to work hard, stay committed and value the gifts and callings they all have.

A luncheon followed the ava ceremony.

Seuula is a former school teacher and principal, and served as principal of Tufutafoe Primary School in Savai'i for 20 years. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in the April 2021 Samoan general election, defeating former Alataua i Sisifo Member of Parliament Ali'imalemanu Alofa Tuuau.

When Tuuau was declared elected under the women's quota on 20 April 2021, he was a party to the court challenge which saw her appointment overturned.

On 24 May 2021 he was appointed Minister of Education, Sports and Culture in the elected cabinet of Fiame Naomi Mataʻafa. The appointment was disputed by the caretaker government.

Last month-July the Court of Appeal ruled that the swearing-in ceremony was constitutional and binding, and that FAST had been the government since 24 May.

Seu'ula Ioane is 51 years old. He is a native of Tufutafoe, Savaii where he has lived his whole life.
