"Burglary and theft crimes on the rise," says Police Commissioner.
The Samoa Police Prisons and Corrections Services is concerned about the nationwide increase in theft and burglary offenses.
Four young adults were detained on Friday of last week and charged with robbery and burglary, which
is the most recent burglary incident to be reported amid a discernible increase in crimes.
Auapaau Logoitino Filipo, the police commissioner, confirmed in a telephone interview that the four boys seized are from the village of Vaimoso during a raid by its tactical unit last Friday afternoon.
The four individuals apprehended by the authorities include a 48, 46, 30, and 29-year-old male.
Among the stolen goods, the police seized a TV, laptops, cell phones, DJ mixer, camera and laptop bags.
The Ministry is reportedly quite concerned about the sudden increase in crime and the propensity to exchange stolen goods for ice or methamphetamine.
Police think that narcotics are being produced here in Samoa even though they lack concrete evidence to confirm this suspicion.
The four suspects who have been detained declined to give interviews about the accusations made against them.
As combating this kind of youth -related crime necessitates community support, Auapaau is requesting assistance from village councils
