Chief Justice swears in the Head of State of Samoa Tuimaleali’ifano

Head of State of Samoa, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II was sworn in to serve a second term of five years by Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese at the Parliament House in Mulinu’u on Tuesday morning.

The Head of State was accompanied to Parliament House by the Masiofo Faamausili Leinafo Tuimaleali’ifano.

Chief Justice Satiu administered the Oath of Office where the Head of State placed his right on The Holy Bible and swore by the Almighty God to uphold the dignity of The Office of Head of State justfully and faithfully.

He swore to carry out his duties in accordance with the Constitution of the Independent State of Samoa and the law, with the help of God.

The Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano signed his name to formally conclude his taking the oath and shook hands with the Chief Justice.

Members of Parliament welcomed the Head of State with a resounding round of applause.

Head of State Tuimaleali’ifano thanked the Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, Parliament Speaker Papali’i Lio Masipau, Cabinet Ministers and Members of Parliament for electing him to a second term in office.

He extended salutations to the Chief Justice Satiu, all judges, the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration (M.J.C.A.), members of the diplomatic corps, all government ministries and the private business sector.

Churches and Churches leaders across Samoa, servants of God, were also acknowledged as were the people of Samoa who tuned in via live stream, watching from home and every corner of the globe.

He commended the Government of Samoa on the Atoa O Samoa Executive Talks held last week Thursday and Friday with the American Samoa Government (A.S.G.) and extended salutations to A.S.G. and its three branches of government too.

The swearing in ceremony was blessed with a word of prayer from Father Louis Anthony Visesio Europa II.

Hymns were provided by employees of the Legislative Assembly.

The Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano thanked Father Europa for leading prayer and for his blessings of the Holy Spirit upon the ceremony.

The role of Head of State, said Tuimaleali’ifano, has been accepted “humbly.”

“I humbly accept this role in service to the people and the nation,” said High Highness Tuimaleali’ifano.

He remarked on the 60th anniversary of Samoan sovereignty and its theme “Folau Ma Le Faatuatua”, noting he will rely on the unceasing love of God in his position as Head of State.

“I will rely on who God strengthens me,” he said.

He said it is God who carried us through the trials and challenges the nation has experienced and continues to bless and shield Samoa from upheaval experienced by other nations.

The Head of State asked for God’s blessings upon Samoa, all families, villages and Churches of the country and implored leaders to wear the love of God and Jesus Christ at all times.

He said to wear the love of God means forgiveness.

“That we may glorify God,” said the Head of State.

He extended special thanks to the Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) Political Party, the P.M., the House Speaker and Cabinet for choosing him.

“Humbly, I thank you for electing me to serve as Head of State for another five years,” said His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano.

He thanked Chief Justice Satiu for conducting the ceremony and commended the Judiciary for their work and patience in their fight for truth, justice and rule of law.

Church leaders were thanked for their work, all government workers were thanked for their service and Samoans here and abroad were thanked for their contributions and blessings upon the villages, the nation and the Churches.

The Head of State expressed special thanks to his family and the family of the Masiofo, their villages and districts for the unwavering love, support and prayers.

“Your efforts have not gone unnoticed by our God,” he said.

The Head of State thanked Samoa for the support shown through prayers and fasting and departed the Parliament House after he blessed the government and the gathering at Parliament House.

‘Samoa is founded on God,” the Head of State said.

By law, the Head of State is allowed only two terms in office.
