Digicel Samoa named the fastest mobile network in the country

Digicel Samoa has been named "Samoa's fastest mobile network" following certification by OOKLA Speedtest.

OOKLA is the global leader in network intelligence and connectivity insights, and is recognized as the highest body in the world which certifies mobile networks globally across all the countries.

The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) of Digicel Samoa Seiuli Deepak Khanna said in a press conference on Wednesday that it is a proud moment for their team, and compared the OOKLA award to the being the ‘Oscars of telecommunication’.

"[For the] first time ever in the last 17 years now since we've been in the country we have been awarded as Samoa's fastest network," Seiuli said.

Seiuli revealed that Digicel had invested 10 to 12 million tala into upgrading their network last year, and that being the fastest in the country brings better experience and faster downloads.

"And as we move forward into this year a lot more investment done into the network and also increasing both the faster speeds and also the coverage across both the islands in the country," he said.

Digicel Samoa’s Chief Technical Officer (C.T.O.) Derek Rasmussen stated that they give best service, and it has been shown through their investment, hard work, and feedback from the customers which has enabled them to achieve this.

Mr. Rassmussen also expressed that they are proud of this new benchmark, and explained that they have no way of influencing the results as they are purely gathered from phones and "it is totally independent".

When asked by Eyespy Radio on Wednesday how they feel to be the fastest mobile network in Samoa, Mr. Rasmussen said that it feels amazing.
"What it shows is that all the hard work, the planning that we've done, we've been able to achieve this and to deliver to our customers, the fastest mobile network in Samoa," he told Eyespy Radio.

"It's like receiving the Oscars. We all strive to be able to say that when you hit that button, your experience is amazing and that's what we strive for. So for us to say that we have received this, for us in the industry this is probably the pinnacle of saying we are the fastest.”

"We won't stop here, we are looking at coverage, everything else, our apps, things that we can give back to the customer to make sure that their experience is amazing."

Seiuli added that it is an awesome feeling, and a super proud moment for him.

"It's a pinnacle in the telecom industry to get the award in the telecom industry. Any C.E.O. would be super proud of this team and this is their moment getting it in Samoa, getting the fastest network here in Samoa," he said.

When asked if they are confident that Digicel Samoa will remain the fastest in Samoa, Digicel Samoa Chief Operations Officer (C.O.O.) Mr. Bhullar said that they will not rest and stop here.

"We keep investing, we keep analyzing, and we keep listening to the consumer feedback so this is an ongoing activity," Mr. Bhullar told Eyespy Radio.

"We cannot, and we will not stop here."
