Booster and Pfizer injections are suspended until further notice: More than 2 thousand Samoans have received booster shot so far.

The Ministry of Health has announced today that the booster and pFizer injections will be suspended until further notice.

Samoa began administering booster shots of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine last month.

More than 2000 booster injections have been done so far. The Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa announced during her Press Conference on Friday.

"A total of 2.012 booster injections have been done to date for 1,043 females and 969 males" she said.

But the vaccines roll out program for the age group 5-12 will begin as soon as the pediatric vaccine supplies arrive.

But as of today a total of 118,708 Samoans have received their full double dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, or a figure that amounts to more than 97.4% per cent of the eligible population, latest figures show.

The vaccination count, released on Wednesday, shows 108,947 people have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Of this total, 55,680 are male while 53,267 are female.

The Ministry of Health are on target to achieve the vaccination rates of 95-98 per cent of the country’s eligible population with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

So far, for the Pfizer vaccine a total of 27,281 received their first dose while 21,342 are fully vaccinated.

The eligible population for Pfizer includes children from 12 -17 years, pregnant mothers and lactating mothers.
