The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG), a beacon of hope and healing for victims of crimes and marginalized individuals. Since its inception in 2005, SVSG has relied on the dedication and selflessness of volunteers to carry out its mission. Among these volunteers, one individual stood out as a true pillar of volunteerism – Afioga Ale Tiatia Paepae Komiti.

Ale's journey with SVSG began in 2010 when he became a registered SVSG village representative of Toamua. His commitment to serving his community and country spanned 14 years, leaving an indelible mark on the organization and the lives it touched. His passion for volunteerism was evident in every aspect of his service.

As a member of the SVSG Board of Directors, Ale played a pivotal role in shaping the organization's direction and impact. His visionary leadership led to the establishment of an Executive Committee for SVSG village representatives, bridging the gap between the grassroots level and the boardroom. Ale's foresight and dedication were instrumental in ensuring that the voices of communities were heard and valued within SVSG.

Throughout his tenure, Ale's contributions to SVSG were numerous and far-reaching. He spearheaded initiatives such as rebuilding SVSG's office after Cyclone Evan, setting up the Men's Advocacy Program, constructing facilities for survivors of violence, and advocating for suicide prevention. His generosity knew no bounds, often funding these projects out of his own pocket.

One of Ale's most significant legacies was the construction of the Sakura House – Samoa's first domestic violence shelter – in 2021. This milestone not only provided a safe haven for abused women and children but also symbolized Ale's unwavering commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in society.

Beyond his tangible accomplishments, Ale's presence radiated warmth and compassion. He was a trusted confidant, a tireless advocate, and a beacon of hope for those in need. Whether coordinating community programs or speaking at public forums, Ale's cheerful spirit never wavered.

As SVSG mourns the loss of Ale Tiatia Paepae Komiti, they also celebrate his legacy of service and sacrifice. His life epitomized the essence of volunteerism – giving selflessly, expecting nothing in return. In the words of SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang, Ale's service reminds us of the biblical adage, "God loves a cheerful giver."

As SVSG continues its mission to empower and uplift those affected by violence and marginalization, Ale's spirit will continue to guide and inspire. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the enduring impact of his work. Though he may be gone, his legacy of volunteerism will forever remain a guiding light for SVSG and the community it serves. Talofa e, Ale Tiatia Paepae Komiti – may you rest in God's eternal peace, knowing that your service has made a difference in the lives of many.
