PETROL PUMP FIRE AT SA'ANAPU: LUCKY ESCAPE

A driver, passengers and a petrol station attendant were lucky to escape injury when a petrol pump at Sa'anapu caught fire last Friday evening.

The petrol station is owned by Member of Parliament, Lea’ana Ronnie Posini. Police and FESA are investigating the incident which occurred while a vehicle was refuelling.

As well as the driver of the vehicle there were 3 boys in the back of the truck as well as the attendant at the time of the incident. It has been reported that no one was injured and that property damage was minimal. Police are investigating the cause of the fire and have yet to draw any formal conclusions.

Video footage of the incident shows 3 boys in the rear tray of the truck while the attendant refuels the vehicle. Various theories have been posed including a possible electrical fault. Another theory is that a lit cigarette was flicked towards the pump while it was in use igniting the fumes.

Police from Lotofaga are continuing their investigations.
