Miss Samoa Pageant announced to recommence for 2022.
The Miss Samoa national pageant has been a part of the Samoan way of life since the year 1986, an event which celebrates the teine Samoa in all its glory, incorporating cultural, religious and intellectual values to celebrate the tamaitai Samoa or young Samoan female.
And for many years this has been an annual celebration, which went hand in hand with celebrating of the Teuila festival. However for the first time in its 34 years of being one of Samoa’s main annual events, it took a massive turn, as for the first time ever, a crowned Miss Samoa held her title for more than one year. When Miss New Zealand Fonoifafo McFarland-Seumanu 24 years old at the time took the 2019 Miss Samoa National pageant crown.
And due to COVID-19 reaching its peak at the time, and with the many restrictions on a global scale, the Samoa Tourism Authority held out on hosting the Pageant for the year 2020 and 2021. Making Miss Samoa Seumanu the first ever to hold back to back titles.
The start of 2022 however, has brought some essence of good news for our eager teine Samoa who are keen to become the next in line to be crowned, as today the Manaia Events Inc. announced in a post on their official Facebook page the recommencement of the pageant for 2022, stating “In June 2022, we will crown your new Miss Samoa”, which speaks volumes in the community’s fervor cry’s for things to go back to normal. But with the sudden cases of COVID hitting our shores, all we can do is sit and wait.
