Once again, the National Bank of Samoa (NBS) has stepped up to support Samoa's Weightlifting team, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing the nation's athletic prowess. This time, the bank has proudly announced a $20,000 naming sponsorship for the team, further solidifying its role as a cornerstone supporter of Samoa's sporting aspirations.
The sponsorship comes at a crucial juncture as the Samoa Weightlifting team prepares for the Oceania Youth, Junior & Senior Championships in Auckland, New Zealand. Scheduled from February 21st to 25th, 2024, this event not only showcases the team's talent but also serves as a pivotal qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
With NBS's backing, the team can focus on their rigorous training regimen and participation in international competitions, knowing they have the support necessary to compete at the highest level. This sponsorship not only provides financial assistance but also boosts morale and instills a sense of pride in representing Samoa on the global stage.
In a statement on social media, the Samoa Weightlifting team expressed their gratitude to NBS for their continued support, highlighting the bank as the "Naming Sponsor for Team Weightlifting for 2024" and emphasizing their preparations towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The partnership between NBS and the Samoa Weightlifting team is not new. In December 2023, the team made waves at the IWF World Cup Grand Prix in Doha, Qatar, with standout performances from athletes like Iuniarra Sipaia and Don Opeloge. Sipaia's historic silver and bronze medals in the Women's 87+kg category, alongside Opeloge's bronze medal and smashing of the Commonwealth Senior Record with a 216kg Clean + Jerk, underscored Samoa's rising prominence in weightlifting.
Following their success, the Samoa Weightlifting team visited the National Bank of Samoa, affectionately known as "The Golden Bank," to extend their sincere gratitude for the support received in 2023. This support proved instrumental in their triumph at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, where they clinched an impressive tally of 15 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and set several new records.
