NO TRANSITION YET
10 June 2021
On Monday last representatives from the HRPP and FAST again met to chart a way forward for effective governance of Samoa. These discussions reached an impasse and FAST gave the former government 48 hours to vacate their offices.
After the expiry of the 48 hours notice, the planned occupation of the Cabinet and other government offices by the FAST lead government today did not eventuate.
Speaking on behalf of FAST, Laauli stated that they received a call from the former PM this morning saying he would not accept the planned occupation by FAST. Tuilaepa remains on his office.
Laauli reiterated that FAST would always keep the peace and that the people will be left to judge Tuilaepa and HRPP by their own actions.
FAST is looking to move forward and have placed their faith in the Courts to resolve this standoff quickly and peacefully.
It is understood that HRPP are also holding a special meeting at present. It is not known what role Samoa Police played in the planned occupation of the government offices.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court remains fully occupied hearing the numerous petitions lodged by both parties.
This is an evolving story and we will keep you updated as it progresses.
