Okeanos Waa'Qab canoe due to Arrive
The voyaging canoe, Okeanos Waa'Qab from Yap, FSM is now due to arrive tomorrow afternoon, Thursday 6/October, since departing Pohnpei on September 10th.
The Aiga Folau o Samoa, Samoa Voyaging Society will be hosting a brief Ava o le Feiloa'iga to welcome the Okeanos Waa'Qab Captain and crew to Samoa on Thursday evening.
After almost four weeks since departure from Pohnpei, FSM, the Captain and Crew of the Okeanos Waa'Qab would be ready for a good rest in Apia before the canoe is expected to sail off again after a short rest and reprovisioning.
According to one of the Gaualofa’s Watch Captains, Taleni Aiolupotea of Satuimalufilufi, ".... for a voyaging canoe, this trip Okeanos Waa'Qab is undertaking is one of the toughest we can do - with an East-South-East wind, you'll be doing it tough - may not be so bad for monohulls, but on a voyaging canoe, - it's tough - we even ran out of rations, well, almost - .... and when we finally arrived, all we're thinking was - we just want a nice cool shower, a double bed, and a pillow, and an ICE cold beer !!!"
The Samoa Voyaging Society, Aiga Folau members will be meeting their voyaging family on arrival with a brief Ava welcome. SVS wishes to invite all it's former members and those who have voyaged before to join them in welcoming the Okeanos Waa'Qab canoe.
