The Penrith Panthers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the retention of their star five-eighth, Jarome Luai. In a recent development, the club has presented Luai with a two-year contract offer, valued at an impressive $1.7 million, aimed at securing his services until the conclusion of the 2026 season.

Jarome Luai is on the verge of entering the last season of his existing contract, and rival clubs are expected to start formal offers from November 1. The Panthers are well aware of the intense competition they face in keeping Luai on their roster. He's likely to receive offers from other clubs worth up to $1 million per season, thanks in part to his exceptional skills and performances on the field.

The challenge for the Panthers in retaining Luai is further exacerbated by the substantial contracts already awarded to other key players, including Nathan Cleary, Dylan Edwards, James Fisher-Harris, Liam Martin, and Isaah Yeo. To address this issue, Luai recently met with Penrith's top decision-makers about eleven days ago, during which he was informed of the club's improved financial capacity, signalling their commitment to keeping him in the fold.

Rugby league chief executive Matt Cameron has been tight-lipped about the specifics of these discussions, leaving fans and analysts alike eagerly awaiting the outcome of these negotiations.

Luai recently underwent shoulder surgery, causing him to miss the Pacific Championship. The Penrith Panthers are undoubtedly eager to keep Jarome Luai as an integral part of their squad, and their substantial contract offer demonstrates their determination. The coming months will be crucial, as Luai evaluates his options and ultimately decides on his future in the rugby league. For now, all eyes are on the negotiations, as fans anxiously await news of the outcome.
