The "political stability" of Samoa, according to Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa, is of utmost importance.

The leader of Samoa highlighted the critical significance of political stability to the country's economic health and standing on the international arena while speaking virtually to the Second   Democracy Conference, which was attended by 120 countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized that "political stability matters significantly for economic development" and said that this was "the imperative coupled with the intent to fully restore our   democratic processes following our general elections in 2021 and the transition to our current administration which greatly aided us to meet the onslaught of the COVID 19 pandemic,   the pervasive impacts of climate change and other ensuing global crises which have reached our geographical isolating region."

Fiame, which was presided over by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, also urged nations to give small island nations like Samoa an equal playing field in terms of economics.

The Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) tool, which is currently being finalized by the United Nations, provides the unbiased justification we need for International Financial Institutions to distribute concessional financing to help us prepare for and recover from crises beyond our control, explained Prime Minister Fiame. "Importantly for small islands states like Samoa, we would welcome the support of the international community for the MVI tool," Fiame added.

The United States, Costa Rica, Zambia, the Netherlands, and South Korea shared hosting duties during the second summit.
