Republic of Poland and Samoa to celebrate ten years of friendship

Ambasador Grzegorz Kowal of the Republic of Poland presents credentials to His Highness the Head of State of Samoa. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 2012 and will soon celebrate ten years of friendship.

Ambassador Kowal is one of the 4 non-resident Ambassadors to Samoa that presented their credentials virtually to His Highness the Head of State of Samoa Tuamalealiifano Sualauvi II on May 11th.

Tuimalealiifano stated that the tenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is a milestone, and said that he is delighted to learn of Poland's efforts and committment to establish a Consulate Office of the Republic of Poland in Apia to commemorate this anniversary and to strgethen our bilateral relations.

"Samoa and Poland have collabrorated on interests of mutual concern at the United Nations such as peace and security, human rights, climate change and oceans, issues that are of importance to Samoa and other Small Island Developing Countries," Tuimalealiifano said.

He stated that Poland hosting COP24 in 2019 showed committment in discuissing issues pertaining to climate change and the Paris Agreement to streghthen countries abilities and to support their efforts to deal with the impacts of climate change and existential threats to small islands in the region.

Ambassador Kowal said that Poland is a committed member of international community.

"We are an active member of the European Union and NATO, as well as committed a committed member of the United Nations," Ambassador Kowal said.

"Saying that I would like to stress and acknowledge our very good cooperation on international forum. The Republic of Poland also shares common view of the Independent State of Samoa on climate change."

He said that as the Polish Ambassador accredited to the Independent State of Samoa resident in Wellington, he will be honored to make every effort to develop our bilateral cooperation further and assist their Government and nations in projects which may bring benefits to the two countries and people.
