After an inspiring performance at the IWF World Cup 2024 in Phuket, Thailand, Samoa's weightlifting representatives returned home with heads held high and hearts full of gratitude. Amongst their achievements, which included personal bests and historic qualifications for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was a testament to resilience, dedication, and the unwavering support of sponsors like the National Bank of Samoa (NBS).

The journey began on the international stage, where Samoa's finest weightlifters showcased their prowess against the world's best. Iuniarra Sipaia's remarkable 7th place finish in the Women's 87+kg category secured her a spot in the upcoming Olympics, marking a historic achievement for Samoan weightlifting. Don Opeloge's silver medal win, accompanied by new Commonwealth and Oceania records, solidified his status as a force to be reckoned with in the Men's 102kg division. Additionally, Maeu Nanai Livi's impressive performance in his World Cup debut highlighted the promising future of Samoan weightlifting.

Reflecting on the team's accomplishments, Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork, President of the Samoa Weightlifting Federation, expressed pride in their achievements. "One of the highlights is that two have been officially qualified (for the Olympics). They made the top 10, top 6 both of them," he remarked, acknowledging the dedication and perseverance of the athletes.

While celebrating their successes, Tuaopepe also emphasized the importance of continued support and preparation leading up to the Olympics. With rigorous training camps scheduled in Melbourne and Italy, the weightlifters are gearing up for the ultimate challenge. "The training camp in Italy is a high level, some of the best in the world," Tuaopepe noted, highlighting the significance of exposure to diverse training environments.

Central to the team's preparations is the invaluable support provided by sponsors like the National Bank of Samoa. As the naming rights sponsor for the weightlifting team, NBS has played a crucial role in facilitating their journey to the Olympics. "National Bank of Samoa have stepped up to be the naming sponsor for the Weightlifting team. They have supported them for the last two competitions, and have now also planned to aid them for the Olympics," Tuaopepe explained, underscoring the bank's commitment to fostering athletic excellence in Samoa.

In addition to corporate sponsorship, Tuaopepe acknowledged the support of the government in empowering Samoan athletes to pursue their Olympic dreams. With a shared vision of bringing home gold, the weightlifting team remains steadfast in their commitment to excellence. "The big goal or dream is Samoa to get a Gold medal from the Olympics. We pray to God for guidance in being with us on our journey," Tuaopepe expressed, encapsulating the spirit of determination and hope that fuels their quest for Olympic glory.

After the interview, amidst the fervent preparations for the Olympics, a heartwarming gesture from the National Bank of Samoa (NBS) added to the sense of solidarity and support. NBS presented another generous contribution, handing over a symbolic $20,000 check to the President of the Samoa Weightlifting Federation. This act of generosity reaffirmed NBS's commitment to empowering Samoa's athletes on their journey to Olympic success, further cementing their role as a steadfast partner in the pursuit of excellence.

As Samoa's weightlifters embark on the next phase of their Olympic journey, they do so with the unwavering support of sponsors, officials, and the entire nation behind them. With gratitude in their hearts and determination in their souls, they carry the hopes and dreams of a nation as they strive to make history on the world stage.
