RSA Bouncer Appears Before Court
The Supreme Court heard criminal allegations on Monday morning this week involving an RSA security bouncer who is accused of leaving a patron for dead after a brutal beating.
Following the alleged incident outside the well-known RSA nightclub, which left a 48-year-old man from Samalaeulu and Fusi fighting for his life at Motootua National Hospital three weeks ago, Andrew Samuelu of Vaiusu had been charged with attempted murder.
Samuelu is charged with attempted murder, with lesser charges of assault, grievous bodily harm, and actual bodily harm.
The accused, who had been in police custody since his arrest, was granted bail by Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma after being represented by Ann Matalasi-Fata of Leavai Law.
Andrew Samuelu is required to surrender his travel documents, sign in once a week, and not return to the location of the incident.
When the incident was first reported last week, a family member of the victim informed Radio Polynesia that her cousin suffered head injuries and is lucky to be alive.
"My cousin bled from his brain, according to the doctor.
He was intoxicated at the time of the incident, which meant he couldn't fight back against his attacker because his vision and decision-making were impaired."
"There should be stricter policies for people working as nightclub security so that they don't take advantage of inebriated or intoxicated patrons," she said.
In three months, the accused is scheduled to make another court appearance.
