Sails to host impromptu island jazz performance on Friday

Sails Restaurant and Bar at Mulinuu to host impromptu Island jazz performance on Friday that will have a mix of local musicians and special visiting musicians from American Samoa.

According to a statement issued by the restaurant, local Jazz artists have been rehearsing at Sails.

“They were building up to an informal performance for local Jazz enthusiasts two weeks ago, to commemorate the annual International Jazz Day on 30th April,” the statement reads.

“Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the sultry jazz sounds of the popular 90's Jazz group Shadze of Samoa, anchored by the  popular local base guitarist Afioga Funefe'ai Oliva Va'ai, as well as other very well established musos. 

“The American Samoa visiting artists includes the legendary Master Ulale Pusi Ulale and Mr Tom Scanlan.”

The performance on Friday will be free as it will be a “generous gesture from sons and daughters of Samoa”  and is open to the  public or those who appreciate this genre of Island sounds. 

Proprietor of Sails Seiuli Ian Black said: “However, as we know our people,  they always appreciate these acts of kindness and goodness of people's hearts.”

 "I know that when our spirits and souls are moved so beautifully,  our people will always likewise reward and give generously to our artists!!” Seiuli said in the statement.

"It's going to be quite a treat."
