Samoa celebrates 60 years of Independence
Samoa celebrated 60 years of Independence with a thanksgiving service at the Malae o Tiafau, Mulinuu on Wednesday morning.
The thanksgiving service was attended by His Highness the Head of State of Samoa Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The flag was raised by Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa.
Tuimalealiifano said in his opening address that it is a significant day as the whole country is taking part in the celebrations.
"The theme for our 60 years of Independence to 'Sail with faith' is a revelation and guidance to our journey into the future," Tuimalealiifano said.
"The Bible declares that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.
"It also ascertains that we should walk by faith and not by sight."
Fiame gave her thanks to all sectors of Government.
"Thank you all for your support and efforts. I have noticed and appreciated the talents and gifts of our Police Band, dancing, singing and at a timne you are serving to protect our nation is indeed a rare combination," Fiame said.
"Our celebration of 60 years of Independence is for the whole year, this will give our country the opportunity to witness our usual programmes for independence as in pasty years which includes entertainment, dances, and singing, Fautasi Regattae and other similar programmes.
"We anticipate and pray that God will guide us as we sail with faith throughout this long year celebration."
