SAMOA WEIGHTLIFTING TEAM SELECTED FOR COMMONWEALTH CHAMPIONSHIPS
Samoa Weightlifting is a force to be reckoned with in the world of weightlifting, consistently maintaining their reputation as the top Pacific nation in the sport. The next challenge on their journey is the Commonwealth Senior and Junior Weightlifting Championships, scheduled to take place from July 11th to July 17th in Delhi, India. The Samoa Weightlifting Federation has carefully selected a formidable team to represent the country in this prestigious event.
The Chosen Representatives:
In the female division, Samoa will be represented by two exceptional athletes. Lesila Fiapule, a young talent, will compete in the 87 kg weight category, while the remarkable Iuniarra Sipaia will showcase her strength in the 87+ kg weight category.
The male division features a lineup of seasoned athletes, each with their own impressive track record. Nevo Ioane, a veteran in representing Samoa in weightlifting and a silver medalist in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, will be competing in the highly competitive 67 kg category.
John Tafi, a recipient of medals in the 2019 Pacific Games, Oceania Championships, and Commonwealth Championships, will demonstrate his skills in the 73 kg category.
Maeu Nanai Livi, a rising star in the weightlifting scene, will vie for success in the 96 kg category, while the record-breaking gold medalist, Don Opeloge, will aim for victory in the 102 kg category.
Completing the male division's strong roster is Sanele Mao, a former bodybuilder who made the transition to weightlifting in 2012. Mao has represented Samoa on the world stage, and he will compete in the challenging 109 kg category.
