"TERMS TOO LONG FOR STUDENTS" EDUCATION CEO
As students kick start yet another academic year , new duration adjustments on school terms will be applied within school institutes. The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer 'Aeau Chris Hazelman of M.E.S.C has confirmed that the new terms will be in effect this year.
"As of previous years , there were 15 weeks in each term and they were too long for students," said the CEO. A decision has been passed by the members of the Cabinet and Ministry Officials for ten weeks for each of the first three terms , and 8 weeks for term four.
'Aeau said that the reasoning for these new durations were to provide enough time for students to stay suitable within each term. This follows the old system , where as if students had just returned to school after a break , public holidays within those school days will affect their academic attendance.
"The Ministry is trying our best to educate students at the most convenient time of the year, and are trying to avoid the new terms being affected by public holidays "he added.
All Government schools kicked off on Monday this week with students greeted with their new term time span , ten weeks for term one which was fifteen weeks compared to last year.
"Term one , two , and three will have 10 weeks each for school and 2 weeks for term-breaks. As for the final term , 8 weeks for school and 8 weeks for school break heading to the end of the year and festive seasons." "Aeau said in an announcement.
"Teachers will be o break for five weeks after the final term" he added
The Minister of Education Sports and Culture also stated that this year the Year Five and Year Four students in Primary School level will be eligible to sit the National Examinations as for the Samoa National Junior Certificate for Year Ten students in College level will remain the same.
