Total number of COVID-19 related deaths rises to 23

In a situational report released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) has reported another COVID-19 related death, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 23.

The Situational Report issued by the M.O.H. on Wednesday is from the 6th of May to the 8th of May.

According to the report, the deceased is an 80 year old male with no known comorbidities and was unvaccinated.

119 new community cases were also confirmed by the Ministry and 5 patients are currently in managed isolation at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital at Motootua.

The total number of community cases is now at 10,969.

9646 of the cases are in Upolu, 1308 are in Savaii, and 15 cases are in Manono tai.

“Our prayers and condolences are with the families and children of the person who have passed away. Out of respect for the families and relatives, we will not be making any further comments,” the report reads.

“The public is reminded to remain vigilant and adhere to public health advice such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distance in public places, and ensure personal hygiene at all times.

“Those who are feeling unwell are strongly advised to stay home and isolate to keep your families and loved ones safe. Please get vaccinated as vaccination remains our best defense against COVID-19.”
