The leader of the Human Rights Protection Party, Tuila'epa Sailele Malielegaoi, is refusing to press charges against a 79-year-old woman who allegedly assaulted the former Prime Minister by collaring him outside the Mulinu'u Courthouse  last Friday morning.

This was the statement conveyed by the Commissioner of the Samoa Police Services, Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo, when he was questioned by Eyespy Radio regarding the matter. He stated that the alleged assault transpired last Friday morning at the Mulinu'u Courthouse after the prayer-service to recommence work by the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration this year.

When the matter at the Land and Titles Court concluded, the woman made her way to the front of the Courthouse where she  saw Tuilaepa walking towards his vehicle.

The woman approached Tuilaepa and proceeded to voice her frustrations at the former Prime Minister.

Police later apprehended the 79-year-old along with others who were also present during the alleged assault, they were all taken for questioning at the Police Station in Apia.

Auapa'au stated  that after the woman was apprehended, Police visited Tuilaepa to seek if he was going to press charges against the 79-year-old or not.

However, Tuilaepa handed over a piece of paper containing his answer to the Police.

It said that Tuilaepa did not want to press any charges against the suspect.

Eyespy Radio also asked Auapa'au if the assault against the Prime Minister will prompt the Samoa Police to station officers at the Mulinu'u Courthouse again, he stated that the Ministry will look into the matter.
