U.N.D.P. Resident Representative impressed with youth involvement in Stockholm +50
The United Nations Development Programme (U.N.D.P.) Resident Representative Jorn Sorensen is impressed with the youth's involvement in Stockholm +50 Samoa National Consultations.
Stockholm +50 will commemorate the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Environment and celebrate 50 years of global environment action.
On the 2nd and 3rd of June this year, a crucial international environmental meeting will be held in Stockholm, Sweden.
Samoa National Consultations were held at the Taumeasina island Resort Conference Room on Friday and was attended by members of the Government, youth and Non-Governmental Organisations (N.G.O.).
In an interview with Eyespy Radio on Friday, the U.N.D.P. Resident Representative Jorn Sorensen said the environment and protection of the planet is of key importance, and with the consultations they have come together to discuss how they can work towards a healthier planet.
Mr. Sorensen added that he is impressed with the youth's involvement.
"I have been particularly impressed by the youth, it has been very encouraging to hear the youth. They have been very passionate, they have also been pushing us both UN agencies, but also government and all the stakeholders to maybe be more ambitious when we are reaching out and in the work that we are doing," Mr. Sorensen told Eyespy Radio on Friday.
"Youth here has been exceptionally talented, very articulated. This has been a very good opportunity for us to learn from them, to find champions that can drive forward some of the initiatives that we want to push in the UN, but also for us to establish dialogue and contacts between Government, civil society, N.G.O."
