The Wests Tigers are reportedly gearing up for a major play to secure the services of Jarome Luai, with a massive bid exceeding $4 million. This bold move is seen as a desperate attempt by the struggling club to reverse its fortunes in the upcoming seasons.

According to reports from The Daily Telegraph, Luai has indicated his inclination to part ways with the reigning premiers, the Penrith Panthers. Luai's current contract with the Panthers is set to conclude after the 2024 season, and the club is allegedly only able to offer a new deal worth $800,000 per season.

In contrast, the Tigers are said to be putting forth an offer in the ballpark of $1.1 million per season, and the board's backing, particularly from coach Benji Marshall, is considered almost certain. Marshall, who is set to enter his rookie season as the Tigers' coach in 2024, has taken a hands-on approach to Luai's recruitment.

Luai's admiration for Marshall, revealed in his past statements, is now being leveraged by the Tigers in their pursuit of the talented five-eighth. The report indicates that a recent house visit by Luai to Marshall's place has gained traction, suggesting progress in the negotiations.

Adding intrigue to the situation is the connection between Luai and former Panthers players now associated with the Tigers, such as Api Koroisau and Charlie Staines. The Bulldogs are also reportedly interested in Luai, leveraging their own ties to former Panthers personnel, but the Tigers' offer holds appeal due to the promise of making Luai the chief playmaker, regardless of the jersey he wears.

The development comes on the heels of a cryptic social media post by Knights star Bradman Best, hinting at Luai's potential move to the Tigers. Best, who is off contract at the end of 2024, reportedly received a lucrative offer from the Tigers but ultimately chose to remain with the Newcastle Knights.

As the Tigers position themselves for a major roster shake-up, the outcome of the bid for Jarome Luai could significantly impact the team's prospects in the seasons to come.
