Warning of heavy rain and possible flooding in Samoa

The Samoa Meteorology Division has issued a heavy rain warning and flood advisory for all of Samoa.

The warning was contained in a bulletin issued by the Samoa Meteorology Division at 5AM this morning.

"A trough of low pressure lies East of Samoa. Associated clouds and showers affect the group at times.HEAVY RAIN ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF SAMOA" the statement said.

The Samoa Meteorology Division says that the weather system and associated convections continue to move further away from the country in a southerly direction.

The bulletin also states to expect cloudy periods with brief heavy falls, gusty periods and thuderstorms.

The warnintg and advisory remain mandatory for all of Samoa.

Potential impacts of the weather include heavy downpours with poor visibility, gusty winds, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, pooling near roadsides and waterways.

According to the Samoa Meteorology Division, from Wednesday through Saturday a moist and light northerly wind flow may continue to provide some on Thursday and Friday.

Another high-pressure system to the southwest will enter the area by Saturday as it makes its way eastward.

“These high pressures will introduce drier conditions with minimum rainfall throughout the long term forecast,” the weather bureau's forecast stated.
