16-Year-Old Charged Over Truck Incident

A 16-year-old boy has been charged by Police in relation to an incident that occurred last Friday, where the adolescent is believed to have driven a lorry which trampled the leg of his co-worker and eventually led to the man's death.

The two were travelling on the inter-island ferry from Mulifanua to the Salelologa wharf, and it is believed the incident happened when the boat docked at the wharf and the vehicles were being moved out.


The Deputy Commissioner of the Samoa Police Services, Papali'i Monalisa Tia'i-Keti,conveyed during a press conference with the media on Wednesday that the victim is a 44-year-old man.

Papali'i stated that the victim is alleged to have slept underneath the lorry when it ran over his leg. "The man was then taken for treatment to the Tuasivi Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries from the incident, before he lost his life a few minutes later," stated Papali'i.

The 16-year-old defendant will appear before court on the 5th of December to answer the allegations against him. He is currently on bail and is required to sign in at the Vaitoomuli Police Station every Monday and Tuesday till the day of the trial.
