91 per cent of 18 years and above age group have been fully vaccinated
The Director-General of the Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) Leausa Dr. Take Naseri has revealed that 91 per cent of 18-plus age group have been fully vaccinated with the Oxfored-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Leausa had made the comments in the Health of the Nation programme on Tuesday where he had emphasised the importance of getting the vaccine and the booster shot.
"Looking at the data, there is a huge percentage of our population from 18 upwards have recieved their first dose which is at 90 per cent, as well as [those who have recieved their second shot] which has crossed 91 per cent," Leausa said.
"This clearly states that this our only line of defense to save lives."
The COVID-19 vaccine is currently being administered at various schools in Upolu from Monday to Saturday, while the booster shot is only available to those who are over 18 years and above.
Other than vaccination sites at school buildings, the vaccine is also being administered at the fixed sites at the EPI Building at Motootua, and the Health Center at Matagialalua.
