CHURCH REQUESTED AWARENESS FOR YOUTH CAMP

More than 100 youths of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints from the Nu’umau Stake Sauniatu, gathered for an awareness session on the support services offered by the Samoa Victim Support Group.

The awareness program forms part of the Youth Camp for adolescents 12 – 18 years old.

A request from the leaders of the Stake at Sauniatu Saoluafata was well received by SVSG President Siliniu who appreciated the value in the request, “given the extent of the advocacy and awareness on gender based violence, and SVSG’s support services, to the youths at Sauniatu.”

There was a lot of interest from the participating youths on the Campus of Hope shelter facility for the abused children.

At the same time, there were curious questions challenging questions from the youths, on their role and responsibilities in breaking the cycle of violence.

According to the SVSG Community Team that facilitated the awareness session, “it has been a really engaging program as the youth took ownership of their role as change makers, to advocate for a violence free community.”

When the SVSG Community Team left Sauniatu and the Nu’umau Stake of the LDS Church, an additional youth partnership has been established, strengthening the network of the youth sub-group of the SVSG, the SVSG Juniors.
