ANZ Employee Faces 323 Charges
After five years of committing bank fraud and organized fraud, the
Supreme Court on Monday issued 323 charges against Seira Malifa, a
32-year-old former ANZ Bank employee from Nuu-Fou.
Seira Malifa was charged with having only $80,000 in cash when she
first came before the court in January 2023. She pleaded guilty to the
accusations that were made against her. The prosecution disclosed that
there were new charges in March 2023.
When it was established that there were 323 charges in total and a
cost of about $1.5 million, the defendant remained silent within court
proceedings on Monday morning of this week.
The accused, Seira Malifa took the stand before Justice Fepuleai
Ameperosa Roma , the Assistant Attorney General announced a total of
323 charges and a total of $1.5 million.Up to $1.3 million in charges
were announced last week, but the prosecution requested a chance to
delay it until all charges are confirmed.
Seira Malifa is accused of beginning to commit these crimes back in
2018 and continuing until she was apprehended in 2022..It took ANZ
Bank five years to discover that Seira was engaging in criminal
activity while working there. The bank reported the incident to the
Ministry of Police in 2022, and the inquiry went on.
