A small ceremony was conducted at the school grounds of Itu Asau College on Thursday this week. Officials from the Germany Embassy in Wellington, students and  teachers celebrated the initiative and the new development to officially launch the handout.

Afoa Stefan Szegedi who is the Project Manager and the representative of the German Consul Office in Samoa stated that during a visit to the school back in October, the Embassy saw the need to boost the school's Computer Lab.

"We saw that the computer lab had a very limited number of laptops for the students to learn," stated Afoa in a press release.

Mrs Debora Yaakoby from the Embassy in Wellington visited the College of Itu Asau and met with the school Principal So’oalo Rikisone Selulo back in October. Mrs Yaakoby saw the opportunity to assist and help the College of Itu Asau. The project was made possible with the support of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in New Zealand Nicole Menzenbach.

"At this visit we were told by Principal So’oalo that the Computer Lab desks were produced as part of a project from the students which impressed us." stated Afoa.

"This brings us to why we are here at the college, which is to hand over to Principal So’oalo the 17 Laptops, 2 Air Conditioning units and 1 printer for the computer lab. Since Christmas is less than 10 days away these resources can be seen as an early Christmas present for the College" he added.

Principle of Itu Asau So'oalo Rikisone stated the school didn't have much access to computers or laptops before. He also said that the gift by the Embassy has now set Computing as a compulsory subject for the students.

"This year, we look at the higher number of students taking computer subjects but the problem is the resources are not there to cater for their needs." he said during his remarks.

"We are so great-full for those people for their generosity. This project will definitely add
beauty to the newest computer lab we have just completed this year.
This project will boost the student’s confidence in taking and studying computer studies. It’s a
huge motivation as well to the computer teachers. This project is part
of our adaptation to the government’s initiative of “Living with Covid-19” "stated Principal So'oalo
