20 OCT 2022 – Apia, Samoa: Crossfit Fatutoa, Samoa’s first and only Crossfit affiliate, is gearing up to host its biggest iteration of the Toa Competition.

In its 7th year, the 2022 Toa Competition has grown to include 27 teams, with a combination of local and overseas athletes competing. The gruelling 2-day event will test athletes’ fitness levels and mental grit, as well as reward good strategic planning and teamwork.

Brandon Sefo, the Co-Owner of Crossfit Fatutoa, says that despite the Toa Competition growing, the family-owned gym still holds true to its original ethos; that Crossfit is and should be for everyone.

“We are excited to see the Toa Competition continue to attract increasing interest each year. It’s a testament to the community we’ve built, a community of athletes from all walks of life who have come together to achieve the singular goal of being better versions of themselves than they were yesterday,” said Mr. Sefo.

Athletes who compete in the Toa Competition are ordinary people, often with 9 to 5 jobs, or are stay at home parents, who join the competition to show off their skills and abilities they have worked hard to master.

Crossfit Fatutoa also has strong commitment to nurturing resilient women through its programming.

“We are particularly proud of building a community of strong women and girls, empowering them to achieve continued excellence both inside and outside the gym,” said Mr. Sefo.

Roberta Tiatia, an Immigration Advisor, mother of 5, and Crossfit athlete, has done every Toa Competition since its inception. “I’ve always enjoyed competing in the Toa because every time I surprise myself with what I am able to accomplish – plus it’s always rewarding when you beat athletes half your age. Everyone deserves to experience the full potential and capacity of their bodies to achieve amazing feats of fitness and strength,” said Ms. Tiatia.
