The school of Faga Primary School located in the big island of Savai'i has been blessed by the Government of Japan through its continued support through grant assistance for major capital development projects for the schools that are in desperate need of assistance throughout Samoa.

Japan’s grant to the school is due to its belief that education plays a very important key role in socio-economic development and hope to continue assisting schools in Samoa through its Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (G.G.P).

The new school facilities will replace the old two-storey building which was built back in 1992 and the current 220 students attending Faga Primary School are expected to directly benefit from this project which will provide equal and competent learning opportunities for all the students who are enrolled at the school.

Faga Primary School and its teaching staff as well as members and chiefs of the village witnessed the official handing over of 8 newly built classrooms, a staff room, library, computer lab, as well as a new toilet block which were all funded under the Government of Japan's Grant assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (G.G.P).

A handover ceremony to mark the completion of the project was held on Thursday morning (20th of October) at the school compound. The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, His Excellency Hon. Senta Keisuke, the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C) Hon. Seu'ula Ioane, the Associate Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for the Faasaleleaga No.4 constituency, Hon. Tea To'oala Peato, representatives from M.E.S.C, as well as parents, teachers and students of Faga Primary School.

The Minister of M.E.S.C, Hon Seu'ula Ioane during his keynote address reiterated that the Government of Japan has always been helpful to the people of Samoa through its various projects not only in the education sector but other areas as well, and for this the Samoan Government will always remain thankful.

The Japanese Government also provided the School Committee of Faga Primary School with a grant estimated to be worth up to $202,656 USD (approximately $513,000 SAT) in March this year.

One of the parents who was present at the ceremony, Mr. Kitiona Ulale said in an interview that he is thankful to the Government of Japan for providing this much needed assistance. " Fa'afetai tele lava to the Government of Japan for thinking about the education of our young ones. "Children are the future of any nation, and if they are given the best means to reach their full potential, they will definitely grow to be great leaders for our nation in the future," he said.
