A scene of destruction from an accident involving a red Hyundai Tucson and a bus owned by Laumosooi Transport greeted commuters travelling upon the Cross Island Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 7:00am - 7:30am in front of the Phat Burger restaurant in Malifa.

Eyespy Radio was at the scene of the incident an hour after it transpired, whereby 29-year-old Mr. Lameko Taiala from the village of Ma'agao stated when questioned regarding the accident, "I was walking towards the bus stand opposite the Leifiifi College gate when I saw what happened."

"The Laumosooi bus was travelling at a high speed when it hit the back of the red tucson and veered to the side of the road in front of Phat Burger.

"I ran to where the bus and the tucson were along with other witnesses to see whether there were any casualties from the crash.

"Luckily, the bus did not have that many passengers, only about 12 or so," he said.

A policeman who was also at the scene of the incident said that all the passengers as well as the driver of the Laumosooi bus have all been taken to the Motootua Hospital for treatment, as some of them sustained injuries to the head as a result of the crash.

"Thank God that most schools are on holiday now, or the bus would've been full with students travelling to school and lives would have been lost.

"As you can see the bus is severely damaged with the roof falling off as well. Only the back of the tucson sustained damages but its driver has also been taken to hospital," stated the police officer.

It is alleged that the cause ofthe accident was due to the Laumosooi bus having faulty breaks.

Eyespy Radio is following up on the story as we are still awaiting a report from the hospital regarding those injured and whether there have been any fatalities.
