Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene All Up for March 2022.

Businesses and consumers in Samoa are facing sharply rising prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene in the nbew month of March.

In a statement issued by the Ministry on Monday, the Minister of Finance, Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio’o announced the changes to the petrol prices effectiveMarch 1, 2022.

The retail price for petrol increased by 17.91 sene per litre – moving from $2.93 to $3.11 per litre. Similarly, for diesel the price moving from $2.84 to $3.07 sene per litre which is an increase of 20.67 sene per litre.

The Ministry of Finance's Minister says the skyrocketing prices are due to increasing world wide demand for oil.

The Minister said that demand for petroleum products is growing faster than production especially from the OPEC countries which includes Russia as the world transitions from the worst of the pandemic.

The Russian military build-up on the Ukraine border raised concerns about the stability of the supply chain which in turn is reflected in higher prices as buyers lock in future supplies.

The Finnance Ministry says people must be prepared to prices to stay at high levels for some time.
