Fiame invites New Zealand delegation to Samoa
The Prime Minister of Samoa has invited a delegation from New Zealand to commemorate 60 years since the signing of the Treaty of Friendship in Samoa.
Fiame was welcomed by the New Zealand Government on Tuesday for her first official bilateral visit to New Zealand.
She had met with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern where she had extended the invitation for a delegation from New Zealand to Samoa to commemorate 60 years since the Treaty of Friendship was signed by Samoa and New Zealand.
Prime Minister Ardern congratulated Samoa on 60 years of Independence, and had also acknowledged the work of the Government of Samoa in protecting people from COVID-19.
Fiame said on Tuesday that they meet at a very significant time in the history of Samoa and New Zealand’s relationship which is the 60th year of Samoa’s Independence and the signing of the Treaty of Friendship.
“We would like to invite a delegation from New Zealand [...] to join us in Samoa to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Treaty,” Fiame said.
“And we look forward to welcoming a delegation.
“For our 60th Independence celebration we determined that we are having a year long celebration.”
Fiame explained on Tuesday that all of Samoa is celebrating 60 years of Independence within their own Constituencies and Districts, and a calendar has been set up for the events of the year long 60th Independence celebrations.
