Tanuvasa Pitone, the Commissioner of the Samoa Fire Emergency Services Authority, spoke about the plans to ensure that every community is secure during times of catastrophe and disasters caused by fire.

There have been more than three (3) fire breakouts in the recent months, each with a unique logic such as the burning of a restaurant, a pharmacy, a school, and a manufacturing company in September and October. The Commissioner assures the public that all strategies are now in place for increased consideration of input and concerns.

Eyespy Radio began recording fire breakouts at the start of the year and continued to do so until the most tragic ones occurred last month. According to Tanuvasa, they have sought to put together the most effective strategies, such as hazard maps, evacuation plans, drills, and the provision of fire escaping-tools and fire extinguishers.

The commissioner asserts that the majority of private companies actively work to defend their customers and staff while having none of the aforementioned goals.

“The main problem in Samoa is that our company owners are starting to develop their companies before they satisfy the requirements for a safer business stand and Samoa during emergencies and disasters.” Tanuvasa said.

The commissioner said that every month, drills are conducted to test the safety and evacuation strategies of every business, financial institution, and government ministry.

Tanuvasa said the Samoa Fire Emergency Services Authority wants to let the general public know that the department values any feedback and concerns in order to improve in the future.

Online criticism and concerns made via Facebook or livestreams at the emergency location will not be taken into consideration.
