Firefighter Visits Child He Delivered Inside An Ambulance

Isaako Shiloh Asiata, a former paramedic and firefighter shares the story of how he successfully delivered a baby boy inside an ambulance while they were rushing to the hospital in Tuasivi in Savaii.

"Not all heroes wear capes" ,  that saying resonated so well with the work of bravery by Mr.Isaako Shiloh who delivered a baby inside of an ambulance on March 21st of last year. "It was an afternoon," he said.

"We had to conduct the delivery inside the back of the ambulance as there was no other female inside with us,"he said. Mr.Isaako  stated that he was panicking and kept asking God to guide him throughout the process. "I cried knowing well I had no experience at delivering a human being , but God guided me through it all".

At that time the mother in labour Mrs.Fuli Petaia was rushed from their home in Salelologa  to the hospital in Tuasivi, together in the ambulance were the ambulance driver and Fuli's husband Mr.Lumana'i Petaia who in awe witnessed Mr Isaako deliver the baby boy successfully.

"Two lives were at stake that day, I could've failed. Honestly God did all the work the entire time" he said.

"When I got home that day, I cried and kept on praising God for his love and guidance ," he told EyeSpy Radio. Mr .Isaako at the time who was an ambulance assistance , a medical paramedic and also started serving as a firefighter under the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority in 2020.

He was then stationed in the big island Savaii and worked at the Maota Fire Station. According to a facebook post he said this is the first time ever a baby was delivered inside of an ambulance within the Big Island of Savaii.

When EyeSpy asked Mr Isaako how he felt when Mr and Mrs Petaia named their baby after him , he said he was shocked and surprised and said he didn't expect it to be that way. "It was all God's gift in my hands" he said.

Fast forward to today , Mr Isaako visited the young baby boy who is named after him, Isaako Jnr Lumana'i Petaia. On Wednesday this week The two were united in joy and happiness , so the family of the baby boy were as excited to see the hero who saved the lives of the mother and her child.

Mr Isaako Shiloh Vaipapa Asiata concluded by describing the whole experience as a "Vavega o le Atua Silisili ese, mo tagata faatauvaa" which means God's miracles conveyed through a humble servant.
