Forensic Equipment A Milestone For Samoa Police

The Australian Government has gifted the Samoa Police, Prisons &
Corrections Services (S.P.P.C.S) a total of $680,000 worth of
equipment to enhance and develop the Forensic Unit of Samoa.
Representatives from the Samoa Australian Policing Partnership
(S.A.P.P) gathered at the Samoa Police Training Unit headquarters on
Thursday this week, together with the Minister of Police Lefau Harry
Schuster, Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo and a group of
their respected guests. A small ceremony was done to bless the
official hand-over.
Deputy Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai Keti spoke on the overall
report of the Forensic Project hand-over after a prayer was led by
Samoa Police acting commander Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga. She
highlighted the support by the Samoa Australian Police Partnership in
boosting the department's forensic work and previous work they have
assisted with.
"Much of this work has been done to ensure that our forensic area is
able to support our frontlines and our investigative research"she
says. She states how fortunate this hand-over was for the benefit of
Samoa.
The Samoa Australian Police Partnership advisor Gary Turnbull gave his
remarks during the formalities. He briefed about the success of this
project handout and how this boost will assist Samoa with solving
cases and especially the rising number of crimes happening.
"Criminal activity has changed significantly since 2011. The forensic
has never been so critical as it is now and at the forefront of every
investigation" states Gary Turnbull.
The Samoa Police Department was gifted with three new Forensic
Vehicles and several instruments that will be used to execute
investigative work. They were presented at the ceremony.An exchange of
appreciation and gestures of gratitude was shown by the Samoa Police ,
Prisons & Corrections Services and their partners Samoa Australian
Police Partnership.
