Prices of petrol and diesel remained the same for this month and we asked the public how they felt about it.

On Sunday the Ministry of Finance announced in a statement that there will be no changes to the Maximum Retail Prices for Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene for the month of May.

"Therefore, the prices will remain the same as the prices in April 2022," the statement reads.

For the petrol, the price remains at $3.34 per litre, diesel is $3.30 per litre, and kerosene is $2.87 per litre.

Taxi drivers have been affected by the rise in fuel prices, and Fonoti Morespy Okesene of the Triple 777 Taxi Stand told Eyespy Radio on Monday that fuel prices are rising but the fare prices remain the same.

He said that the fare from Mulinuu to the town area is $3 but according to him it shouldnt be that price right now.

He emphasised that there should be a raise in fare prices.

"If they raise the price of petrol then there should be a change in fare prices," Fonoti told Eyespy Radio on Monday.

He added that this is sopmething the Government should have done a while ago.

Livi from Vaimoso who drives a Dyna told Eyespy Radio that the rise on fuel prices has been an impact on his business.

"Its really hard now because of the rise in fuel prices and its really expensive," he said.

"I dont think the pertol price will go down."

Aleni Ianuari from Vaisigano had also asked for fare prices to rise if fuel prices will rise. He had also told Eyespy Radio that the rise in fuel prices has been a huge impact on taxi drivers.

"There should be a raise in fare prices if there is a rise in fuel prices," he told Eyespy Radio.

He explained that they need money for petrol, money for his children, and also money to give to the owner of the taxi.

"The owner will not get enough money because of the rise in fuel prices and there will not be enough money for my kids if this will continue in the future," he said.

Similar to Fonoti, his request is for the price of taxi services to rise.

With the impact of the pandemic he feels like he will return to the plantation to earn an income for his family.
