Ten Samoans graduate from the Family Farm Trainers Programme
Ten Samoans have become certified trainers for the Farmily Farm Trainers Programme, to help local farming communities to manage their farms.
The project is funded by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (D.F.A.T.) under the Pacific Horticulture & Agricultural Market Access (P.H.A.M.A.) Plus programme in partnership with USO Agrifoods and delivered and accredited by the University of Canberra.
Samoa is also the first country in the Pacific to launch the programme.
The certificate awarding ceremony was held at the Lava Hotel Conference Room on Thursday.
The P.H.A.M.A. Plus MAWG Chair Tagaloa Eddie Wilson told Eyespy Radio on Thursday that the idea is to train local people to help farming communities to manage their farms.
"There was ten graduates who are certified trainers and three who participated and are yet to complete. And the main aim is that we can help our communities manage our farms, their projects to grow and help their communities," Tagaloa said.
He said that by strengthening the family unit, it strengthens the communities, it strengthens the country and helps the country.
"Its a major achievement for our community," he said.
Tagaloa stated that because of the success of the programme in Samoa, Australia and New Zealand have expressed interest to continue the programme, and he gives his thanks to Australia and New Zealand for their assistance.
