A male prisoner from Tanumalala Prison was admitted to the hospital yesterday after a suspected suicide attempt. According to the Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo the prisoner consumed a poisonous chemical which later on led to his death.

In a press conference with the media on Wednesday this week , Auapa'au confirmed that the prisoner passed away on Tuesday night at the hospital in Leulumoega.

"The prisoner was alive when he was taken to the hospital , treatment was conducted on him but unfortunately he passed away last night" the Police Commissioner said.

According to Auapa'au the prisoner was under the farming party within Tanumalala Prisons and was given laboured work of growing vegetables for the prison meals. The 40+ year old male prisoner was charged with intentional homicide and was imprisoned for his crime.

During the Press Conference , two senior journalists questioned the Commissioner if the name of the prisoner was Kolani Junior Lam ,but the Commissioner responded that details of the case are still under
investigation and won't be revealed until further updates.

"We are still speculating how the prisoner had access to the herbicide chemical" stated Auapaau.

The Police Commissioner stated that the deceased's duration of imprisonment has already been almost 3 years since he was jailed for his crime , but has not completed his serving time.
