Hungary to strengthen friendship with Samoa
Hungary's new Ambassador to Samoa Dr. Zsolt Gábor Hetesy to focus on enhancing economic, cultural, and educational ties.
Ambassador Dr. Zsolt Gábor Hetesy was one of 4 non-resident Ambassadors that presented their credentials virtually to His Highness Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II on May 11th.
Tuimalealiifano stated that this year marks the 11th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Samoa and Hungary.
He said that the pandemic has created challenges however Samoa is confident of the opportunities available to further enhance close cooperation with Hungary at the multilateral level through the United Nations.
"Samoa continues to benefit from the EU assistance bilaterally and through regional programmes over the years in the areas water management sector, renewable energy, medical equipment, and other areas of mutual interests," Tuimalealiifano said.
He said that the reopening of borders in the future provides opportunities to further boost tourism development and people-to-people relations between Samoa and Hungary.
Dr. Hetesy said that Hungary is ready to join forces with Samoa to reinforce bilateral relations and to cooperate on global causes such as sustainable development and the fight against climate change.
He plans to travel to Samoa soon and focus on enhancing economic, cultural, and educational ties.
"Hungary as a member of the European Union fully supports the organisation's recently adopted Indo-Pacific Cooperation Strategy and we are ready to take part in its implementation, therfore Hungary will also boost its prescence and activities in the Pacific region," he said.
