On Thursday, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a helping hand to the Lalomalava Primary School of Savai’i.

The contract was signed by the secondary school committee representatives and the Japanese ambassador, H.E. Senta Keisuke.

The cost of Japan's assistance to Lalolamalava to rebuild a new school to replace the outdated levels in the existing school is estimated at $215, 400. The school comprises 8 rooms in addition to offices, utilities, control rooms, Teacher rooms, and book rooms.

The Lalomalava Primary School representatives felt honored during the official signing because they had spent years looking for assistance. The school began its fundraising effort last year on October 1st, 2022, in an effort to raise money for a complete school reconstruction.

When it was determined that the present school was no longer safe due to numerous regions deteriorating and frequently being destroyed by natural catastrophes, the School Board of Education requested assistance from the Japanese government.

However, some assistance was obtained, and money was distributed as the school required. With the money they now have on hand, the principal and his colleagues expressed their thanks.

Due to education, this project will give children a nice atmosphere, as well as teachers.

Through the GGP, the Government of Japan continues to promote and help small-scale initiatives that directly benefit local communities as well as the socioeconomic development of the Independent State of Samoa.
