The hot scorching sun on Saturday didn't stop the Le Ata Seagles
Women's Paddling Team from securing this year's top spot in the
women's division of the Nafanua Halloween Regatta 2022. A milestone
for the seagle girls as they celebrate their major win.
Despite the team being underdogs and having just recently formed their
team with new recruits they had something to prove going into the
race. The team had 10 members on their team split into two categories
with 5 members representing the girls team and the other five in the
mixed division. Going up against three other teams such as Too Sure ,
Vision and BTN the expectation was electrifying and hopeful for the
women's team and they won.
The team members were very excited when they were announced as the
winner in the women's division. They celebrated and stated that their
commitment and dedication has led them to their victorious moment.
They've also acknowledged the amazing work and effort of their coaches
who they state have been their constant advisor and mentor since day
one. They were coached by Su'a Jay Ah Fook and Lucas Sooaemalelagi ,
training the team every evening at the Matautu Harbour.
One of the coaches of the team , Lucas Sooaemalelagi expressed his
heartfelt gratitude to his team members and the whole experience. "I
am truly proud of the girls and the whole team," says Mr
Sooaemalelagi.
Efforts by the mix team were also highlighted by the team skipper
Leata Mailo and stated they were very proud and grateful for the team.
She states that future teams should be wary of their next regatta as
they will return stronger and better.
