MP QUESTIONS SUSPENSION OF 1 MILLION TALA PROJECT FUNDS
Member of Parliament of the Fa'asalele'aga 5 Constituency, Pesetā Vaifou Tevaga has questioned the Parliamentary Committee regarding a temporary suspension of his electoral constituency from government release funds for the 1 million tala project.
In the first Parliamentary sitting of the year which convened on Tuesday 17th of January this week , heated debates were felt when the subject was being discussed. This follows some of the debates on the second reading of the 2022/2023 supplementary budget.
According to a speech by the MP from Fa'asalele'aga 5 electoral constituency, he stated that he recieved a letter from the Minister of Women ,Community and Social Development Leota Laki Lamositele , notifying the temporary suspension of his Constituency in regards to the funds.
''This letter announced the temporary suspension of the government's re-release of funds for the project of 1 million for my district." stated MP Pesetā Vaifou Tevaga of the Human Rights Protection Party.
He then went on and questioned why this had happened and requested an explanation from the members of the committee. Just before Pesetā Vaifou could finish his statement , the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries La'aulialemalietoa Polataivao Fosi Schmidt
intervened.
Laauli who is also a member and representative of the co-committee (Parliamentary Committee) of the 1 million tala project that was tabled , stated that according to the records and the reports by the
Government Audit team, it stated that there is no satisfaction of policy of this project.
According to the Minister of Agricultural and Fisheries Laaulialemalietoa , it seems that the constituency has made their own decisions such as the distributing of the fund out to its members
without complying with the policy of the 1 million tala project. Hence why the suspension was made.
6 Committee Reports were tabled and handed over to the Legislative Assembly by members of the Parliamentary Committee on Tuesday as the first session convened.Parliament continues to proceed for the rest of the week.
