The Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, Olo Afoa Fiti Vaai, has extended a formal apology to the people of Samoa for the lengthy delay in the ferry scheduled that occurred on Friday of last week.

On Friday 2 June 2023, it was reported that the last ferry from Savai'i departed hours behind schedule, and there were complaints from the community because of the issue.

In the letter of apology put forth by the Minister, Olo admitted that his ministry is at fault and is to blame for the hiccup, but promised that they will work hard to ensure that the issue will not resurface again in the future.

"As the responsible Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, I apologize to everyone affected by this occurrence.

"I apologize on behalf of the Government and my staff.

"I also sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I understand the frustration and inconvenience that this caused and I am committed to ensuring that similar disputions do not recur in the future. Thank you for your understanding," the letter said.

However, he letter failed to mention or specify what caused and led to the delay.

An outraged member of the public who travelled onboard the delayed ferry said that he and others waited for almost three hours.

"I'm very disappointed at what happened because I was supposed to attend a family meeting at 6pm, but the ferry reached Mulifanua at 7pm."
