NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SAMOA F.O.E. PROMOTES SUSTAINABILITY IN FASHION WITH 'TRASHION REFASHION SHOW'
The National University of Samoa's Faculty of Education (FOE) recently organized a unique and inspiring event called the "Trashion Refashion Show." This innovative fashion design exhibition showcased the creativity and environmental consciousness of FOE's textile technology students, particularly those in courses HFT004 and HFT101.
Held at the Niule'a Conference Room, the show featured stunning designs created by students using waste materials, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry. To add a competitive edge, the competition was divided into three categories: (1) Plastic Trash Bags, (2) Plastic Packaging and Products, and (3) Paper Trash. Designs were evaluated based on their creativity, sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics.
Notable figures such as Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Malua Amosa and Afioga Tavu’i Dr. Niusila Faamanatu-Eteuati expressed their admiration for the students' hard work and innovative talents. Laeimau Tauti Peru Tugaga, the lecturer for textile technology courses, also emphasized the positive impact of using waste materials in reducing littering and maintaining cleanliness on the NUS Campus.
The "Trashion Refashion Show" successfully demonstrated how discarded materials can be transformed into stylish and eco-friendly fashion pieces. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of sustainable practices and creative recycling, underlining the value of these materials as valuable resources for society.
