“No charges have been made yet”: Deputy Police Commissioner

No charges have been made to the driver of the Mitsubishi Colt who was involved in a car crash at Vaigaga on Friday as the driver is currently undergoing surgery, according to Deputy Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti.

On Friday, a Mitsubishi Colt and a Nissan Navara were involved in a car crash. Those who were at the scene when the incident happened alleged that the Mitsubishi Colt was exiting a fish market next to Pasefika Motors at Vaigaga when it had collided with the Nissan Navara.

Papalii told Eyespy Radio on Thursday that no charges have been made as the driver of the Mitsubishi Colt has not recovered and is currently undergoing surgery.

“No charges because the driver has not recovered yet,” Papalii told Eyespy Radio.

Papalii explained that by examining the footage that was circulated on social media on Friday, a U turn cannot be made from the position the Mitsubishi Colt was in.

She said that they are awaiting for the driver to undergo surgery until any charges can be made. She also confirmed that one person was in the Nissan Navara while two people were in the Mitsubishi Colt when the incident had occurred.

“The road rules are there to protect not only the driver but the pedestrians because its important that they are aware,” she said.

Papalii also advises the public to stick to the road rules.

“If you obey the rules such as the speed limit, don’t talk on your phones, wear your seat belt, don’t drink and drive, that all contributes to the safety of people,” she said.
